Junior Software Developer
ROLE PURPOSE
The Junior Software Developer will support the design, development, testing and maintenance of custom software solutions using the Microsoft Development Stack. Working as part of a collaborative IT team, the successful candidate will contribute across different stages of the software development lifecycle while developing their technical capabilities and understanding of development best practices.
This role is suited to an aspiring developer who has a sound foundation in software development principles, demonstrates strong problem-solving abilities and is eager to gain practical experience across database, back-end and front-end development. The Junior Software Developer will work under the guidance of more experienced team members to deliver reliable, secure and user-focused software solutions that support the organisation’s operational and business requirements.
ROLE REQUIREMENTS
QUALIFICATIONS:
- A Bachelor’s Degree, Diploma or relevant qualification in Computer Science, Information Technology, Software Development or a related field
- Relevant industry certifications or practical development experience may be considered
EXPERIENCE:
- 3 years’ experience in software development or a comparable development environment
- Foundational experience with the Microsoft Development Stack
- Working knowledge of technologies such as C#, T-SQL, ASP.NET, JavaScript and CSS
- Exposure to front-end frameworks such as Angular and back-end technologies such as Node.js would be advantageous
- Understanding of relational databases, programming principles and the software development lifecycle
- Exposure to software testing, debugging and version control practices
- Ability to work collaboratively within a team and respond positively to technical guidance and feedback

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES
Software Development
- Assist with the design, development and maintenance of custom software applications using the Microsoft Development Stack
- Write clear, efficient and maintainable code using technologies such as C#, T-SQL, ASP.NET, JavaScript and CSS
- Contribute to the development of responsive web applications, database-driven applications, mobile solutions and other internal software
- Complete development tasks according to agreed technical specifications, coding standards and timelines
- Enhance and maintain existing applications under the guidance of senior team members
Full-stack Development
- Gain practical experience across the full development stack, including database development, server-side logic and front-end implementation
- Assist with integrating software components to create reliable and cohesive applications
- Support the development and maintenance of user interfaces that are functional, responsive and user-friendly
- Work with databases and queries to support application functionality and reporting requirements
Requirements and Technical Implementation
- Work with senior developers, business analysts and relevant stakeholders to understand business and system requirements
- Assist in translating clearly defined requirements into appropriate technical solutions
- Ask relevant questions to clarify requirements, functionality and expected outcomes
- Follow established technical designs, development standards and internal processes
Testing and Quality Assurance
- Test developed functionality to confirm that it performs as expected
- Identify, document and resolve software defects with support from senior team members
- Participate in code reviews and incorporate constructive feedback into development work
- Apply secure coding principles and established quality standards
- Assist with regression testing when enhancements or fixes are introduced
Maintenance and Support
- Assist with investigating software issues and provide development support where required
- Participate in troubleshooting and root-cause analysis
- Implement approved fixes and enhancements to existing systems
- Maintain clear technical documentation relating to assigned development tasks
- Escalate complex technical issues appropriately and provide relevant supporting information
Collaboration and Development
- Work closely with developers and other IT team members to complete assigned tasks and contribute towards shared objectives
- Participate in team discussions, development meetings and knowledge-sharing activities
- Seek guidance when required and apply feedback to strengthen technical capability
- Remain informed about relevant development tools, technologies and industry practices
- Take ownership of personal learning and professional development
