And now for the summary of Afro Ant’s weekly ‘Career Coach Tips’ for July

  1. “Practising responding to potential interview questions? Try the STAR method by discussing the specific situation, task, action and the result of the situation you are describing. Using this method will give the interviewer a clear understanding of your experience and ability.”
    – Ross

  2. “Include reasons for leaving previous roles on your CV. It’s best to keep personal reasons such as that you hate your current job or your superiors, to yourself. Keep your reasons professional and rational: you are looking for better career prospects, professional growth, work opportunities or that your company is restructuring.”
    – Lyndsey
  3. “If your potential new employer verbally expresses that they would like to make you an offer, that’s wonderful! However, hold off on resigning from your current role, and only do so when you receive a signed offer.”
    – Ross
  4. “Set a calendar reminder two months prior to your contract end date and contact your agency to start the process of securing you a new role. ”
    – Ross
  5. “Most employers and agencies complete integrity checks as part of their due diligence process. These typically check the validity of qualifications, criminal records, fraud, ID and credit. Don’t be too surprised if you are asked to provide a copy of your Matric certificate as well. Most employers require the validity of these to be checked, even if tertiary qualifications have been validated.”
