Senior Project Manager
INTRODUCTION
Our client is seeking a highly skilled Senior Project Manager to lead and mobilise a large business project within the Supply Chain, Foods division. The role will focus on Direct Imports (Foods, DC, Finance), operating model change, and strategic business initiatives, with significant visibility at Foods Exco level.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Project Ownership: Full responsibility for the delivery and execution of business projects and initiatives, from conceptualisation to post-implementation review (PIR), ensuring delivery within budget and timeframes
- Mobilisation: Lead mobilisation efforts for a diverse portfolio of projects, connecting stakeholders and driving operational change across the business
- Stakeholder Management: Engage and manage a wide range of senior stakeholders, including Heads of Foods, Tech, Finance, and the CEO of Foods. Build strong relationships, facilitate collaboration, and ensure alignment on project objectives
- Business Requirements: Create Business Requirements Specifications (BRS) from the ground up, synthesising available information and proactively gathering missing data
- Governance & Reporting: Produce regular reports and updates for EXCO members, ensuring project status, risks, and outcomes are clearly communicated
- Change Management: Drive change initiatives, manage impacts on operational teams, and ensure smooth transition into new operating models
- Budget & Cost Management: Oversee project budgets (CAPEX / OPEX), monitor costs, and ensure financial accountability
- Compliance: Ensure adherence to the company’s PM methodology and quality standards
- Team Coordination: Coordinate activities between business, technical, and third-party teams, detailing roles and expectations
- Strategic Input: Contribute to annual operating plans and project priority planning in line with business strategy
ROLE REQUIREMENTS
KEY COMPETENCIES AND EXPERIENCE:
- Relevant Degree / Diploma
- Minimum 8+ years’ project management experience, with proven delivery of complex, cross-functional business projects in retail or related sectors
- Demonstrated ability to initiate, structure, and deliver projects or programmes from inception, taking full ownership and accountability for all phases through to completion
- Mobilisation Skills: Demonstrated ability to mobilise and connect diverse teams and stakeholders for large-scale change initiatives
- Stakeholder Management: Exceptional relationship management skills, with experience engaging senior governance forums and EXCO-level stakeholders, as well as operational staff
- Delivery Frameworks: Proficiency in Agile and Waterfall methodologies, with the ability to blend frameworks to suit project needs
- Business Acumen: Strong strategic thinking, analytical skills, and understanding of retail business operations
- Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication, reporting, and presentation skills
- Change Leadership: Experience in leading change management and operational transformation projects
- Technical Literacy: Ability to work with IT, product, and finance teams to deliver business outcomes
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Ability to travel as and when required
- Collaborative, detail-oriented, and delivery-focused mindset
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
- Experience in creating BRS documents and managing projects with high levels of ambiguity
